On Dec 5, the Kingdom of Belgium, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Finland, Ukraine, Justice Rapid Response & TRIAL International will be hosting an interactive discussion with ambassadors and permanent representatives on the sidelines of the Assembly of State Parties to the International Criminal Court on international crimes affecting the environment with a special focus on two country situations: Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This event will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the environmental destruction and the consequences on local populations, and how current legal tools may be utilized to prosecute these crimes and hold the perpetrators – including economic actors and armed groups – accountable. Our guests will also learn about innovative solutions that justice actors have deployed to further justice and accountability processes through an inclusive and victim-centered approach.
