Organization and position within the organization
Justice Rapid Response (JRR) is an intergovernmental initiative that partners with international, national and civil society actors by providing them with prompt, impartial and professional expertise, tailored to each context, to investigate international crimes and serious human rights violations and to promote the rights and access to justice of victims and survivors. The JRR Secretariat team carries out JRR’s activities under the direction of the JRR Executive Director and it is based in Geneva, Switzerland with a presence in New York. The position
Justice Rapid Response is currently looking for a full-time Communications and Partnerships Officer (CPO) to join our team in Geneva. The CPO role is to plan and implement the communications activities for Justice Rapid Response and support the work of the Public Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Manager as described in the organizations’ Plan of Work. The CPO reports to the Public Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Manager for fundraising-related activities and to the Executive Director for the communications-related activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Communications
1. Strategy Planning and Projects
Develop and implement JRR’s Communications strategy and as well as the annual Plan of Work and Budget for Communications activities. Propose, lead and implement communication component of specific projects and grants, including
planning, budget management and reporting. Maintain up to date an annual agenda for activities for engaging with media and key audiences.
2. Creation and Distribution of Content
Create and distribute quality communications material and content, including publications, newsletters, social media content, digital and multimedia material as well as the annual report of the organization. This also includes monitoring the overall performance of these products in terms of community engagement and visibility growth for JRR. Closely and proactively follow the activities of the programme teams and the roster management unit to capture content and seize opportunities and turn them into communications content. Proactively engage with partners to whom JRR deploys expertise to in order to secure visibility for the organization in the communications products produced by them or in the contexts of media outreach activities they carry out.
3. Website and Social Media Management
Manage and monitor the performance of the website of the organization and prepare content to provide an informative and user-friendly web-platform to JRR’s target audience. Some work will include engaging with contracted personnel. Lead and manage further development of the organization’s social media presence in order to distribute digital content, interact with audiences and strengthen external partnerships. This includes monitoring engagement levels of JRR’s community on its social media platforms as well as the growth of its audience.
4. Public events
Support and when required lead the planning and organization of public events, in cooperation and coordination with the programme teams.
5. Media and Communication related contacts
Identify stories and angles for potential media engagement, as necessary. In close coordination with the Executive Director – identify and engage with media and communications-related contacts, including journalists in order to build a network of media contact for the organization.
6. Policies and Guidelines
Propose, promote internally and keep up to date policies on the use of social media, the branding of the organization, and on protection of the identity and privacy of victims and other persons featured in JRR Communication Products and any other policies relevant for JRR’s work;
7. Support for speaking engagement, media interviews and events
Assist the Executive Director in preparing for speaking engagements, media interviews and events.
Resource Mobilization
1. Proposal writing
Contribute to proposals and concept notes for existing and new donors, by drafting new proposals and quality assurance of documents produced by Programme teams.
2. Reporting
Contribute to the drafting, data quality and proofreading of specific donor reports as well as the institution’s annual donor report on activities.
3. Grant Management
Lead on the management of specific project grants under the supervision of the Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Manager. This includes coordinating steering committee meetings where applicable, coordination with the donor focal point, and lead responsibility for reporting and grant renewal where relevant.
4. Information Management
Ensure that JRR’s donor and grant tracker is updated, including deadlines for reports, concept notes and proposals. In coordination with Roster Management team where necessary, ensure that all funding data, files and contacts related to donors and grant management are up to date on Salesforce and the server. Ensure that the M&E data is complete and current in Salesforce.
5. Strategy Implementation and Planning
Contribute to JRR’s Fundraising Strategy by researching/updating research on current priorities of
various donors and foundations.
6. Outreach
Prepare concise briefing notes on State donors for meetings with officials, following the format
determined by the Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Manager.
Qualifications
- 5 years of professional experience in the field of communications in an NGO, public sector, or
corporate context, with proven skills in delivering a wide range of communications activities and
products. - Advanced knowledge and skills in working with the media, as well as with social media, including multimedia content creation as well as website (re)design.
- Experience in designing and project managing Audio Visual productions such as documentaries;
- Knowledge and prior professional working experience in the journalism and/or public relations sectors would be an asset.
- Experience in conceptualizing and organizing (public) events in the field of justice & accountability incl by engaging with a wide range of senior stakeholders (ie diplomats, experts, international organizations and NGO staff).
- Experience in project design and proposal writing as well as engagement with institutional donors (incl as account manager) in the field of international justice and human rights (notably Swiss and Canadian institutional donors).
- Fluency in English and French, including professional standards in press-release, project proposal and donor report writing. Working knowledge in Spanish would be a strong asset as well.
- Knowledge and prior professional working experience in international human rights and international criminal law is a requirement.
- Knowledge and/or prior professional working experience engaging with stakeholders in Colombia, Ukraine and The Gambia from a communication angle.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and to juggle multiple projects, work under pressure, with low budgets, meet deadlines, and be highly organized with attention to detail.
- Proven interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in interaction with variety of partners and professionals from different parts of the world.
- Proficiency in Hootsuite, Trello, Canva, WordPress, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, and Adobe Première.
