On August 1st, 2024, the trial in relation to the massacre that took place in Conakry’s main stadium on 28 September 2009 came to an end. A Guinean court found former President Moussa Dadis Camara and several other military leaders guilty of crimes against humanity.
Justice Rapid Response welcomes this verdict as it secures a sense of justice for victims and survivors of the massacre that resulted in 156 deaths, 109 documented rapes, and 40 reported disappearances.
This marks the 15th anniversary of JRR’s very first expert deployment of a Military and Police Analyst to the UN Commission of Inquiry into Guinea. To further support the justice processes in the country, JRR also deployed in 2016 a Senior Justice Advisor to assist the Guinean Ministry of Justice – in particular the trial judge – to plan for the trials of alleged perpetrators.
JRR will continue to support justice initiatives that promote the rights and access to justice of victims and survivors.
