On Tuesday, 7 March, UN Women, Justice Rapid Response and the Mission of the Netherlands to the United Nations held a discussion on routes to accountability for crimes of conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). The event was held at the Japan Society in New York.
The speakers at the event were: H.E. Ms. Lise Gregoire – van Haaren, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN; Ms. Lakshmi Puri, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director, UN Women; and Ms. Shuvai Busuman Nyoni, Gender Expert, Executive Director of the African Leadership Centre Trust (ALC-T). The event was moderated by Mr. Andras Vamos-Goldman, Executive Director of Justice Rapid Response.
The feature presentation was given by gender expert Shuvai Busuman Nyoni, who shared firsthand perspectives from her experiences investigating SGBV and working to address these crimes in South Sudan. Ms. Busuman Nyoni is certified to the JRR-UN Women SGBV Justice Experts Roster.
The event brought together more than 65 people representing Member States of the United Nations, legal and gender advisors, civil society advocates as well as those from the philanthropic community.
