JRR Commemorates the “Clearance Operations” in Myanmar Committed by the Military Against the Rohingya Community

This week marks the anniversary of the “Clearance Operations” launched by the Myanmar authorities, a planned, widespread, and systematic campaign of violence against Rohingya civilians led by the Myanmar military and other security forces, which resulted in their large-scale displacement.
Our partner, Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) published a report in 2023 on the devastating consequences of these “operations” entitled “The Long-term Physical and Psychosocial Consequences of Genocidal Sexual and Gender-based Violence the Myanmar Military Committed Against the Rohingya in its 2017 ‘Clearance Operations.”
JRR made available its Roster of justice and human rights experts to LAW by deploying three sexual and gender-based violence psychosocial experts to Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
They supported LAW by interviewing survivors, provided crucial research input and contributed to the drafting of the present report. Their support has enabled a multidisciplinary approach in the research led by LAW. This was necessary for both the documentation work and the adoption of a trauma-informed approach when interacting with victims and survivors.
