JRR, A Key Ally of the Justice Action Coalition

JRR’s Executive Director, Samuel Emonet, was pleased to attend the Justice Action Coalition High-Level Meeting this week. This was the occasion for JRR to touch on two sectors of activity that can benefit the justice practices of Coalition members and partners as well as spark collaboration.

First, we touched on the increasingly important role that technology will play – and is already playing – in relation to justice processes. Digital tools are now key to collect and analyse the sheer amount of data available that can eventually be turned into evidence to support justice processes. Often, JRR is now being requested for open-source Investigative expertise, and Data analysis and management expertise. Because of the digitalization of the justice sector, new issues are now arising, such as ensuring that these technologies are truly survivor-centric and don’t replicate biases that might be damaging for a given justice process. In the future, JRR will continue refining the expertise available on its Roster to keep addressing the needs of justice actors.

Secondly, we touched on the coming launch of a Guidance and Practical Tool on Intersectionality that we developed in partnership with UN Women. It will detail how intersectionality may be used as a lens in investigations involving human rights violations and international crimes, and will offer a concrete framework for investigators. By applying intersectionality, this tool broadens access to justice and redress, ensuring a more inclusive and comprehensive approach to understanding the nature and scope of human rights violations and international crimes. This tool is part of JRR’s efforts to promote a holistic, inclusive and survivor-centric justice.

JRR is proud to be a member of the Coalition and is looking forward to keeping collaborating with key stakeholders at both the regional and international levels to pursue people-centered justice globally.

Our Roster of justice and human rights experts constitutes a unique repository of knowledge and lessons-learned on ongoing justice and accountability processes across the globe, and we are pleased to join forces with the Coalition to share our experience and keep promoting the rights and access to justice of victims and survivors.
