New Protocol for the Investigation of Sexual Violence

What about a dedicated protocol for the investigation of sexuak violence cases in Latin America?

This is exactly what the Ibero-American Association of Public Prosecutors’ Network specialising on gender recently published. The protocol draws from global norms and standards, and offers sophisticated instructions on how to interact and interview safely survivors victim of gender-based violence, and how to conduct context-based investigations.

Emphasis was also placed on translating a “survivor-centered approach” into actionable guidelines. For instance, the Protocol indicates that the victim’s well-being and autonomy should take precedence when handling their information. It underscores the critical need to prevent revictimization and details what should consist a trauma-informed approach when evaluating a victim’s testimony.

Justice Rapid Response was proud to support the Network in developing the regional protocol with the help of a gender expert, and we are looking forward to exploring best approaches to facilitate its implementation and continue promoting the rights and access to justice of victims and survivors.
